What a verified handicapper record should mean
Many services call their record verified. Few meet the standard that word implies.
The short answer
A verified record should show every pick, posted in public before the game started, with a timestamp, a price and a fixed unit size, graded by someone who is not paid by the handicapper. If any of those five is missing, verified is a marketing word.
The five tests
- Public. The pick was visible to anyone, not sent privately to buyers and reported later.
- Before the start. The timestamp is before the game began. A reveal after the start can not be checked.
- Priced. The odds are recorded, so units and ROI are real.
- Complete. Every pick counts, including the losses and the deleted posts.
- Independent. The grader is not paid by the handicapper, and no one can buy a better rank.
How Handicapper Watchdog applies them
Picks are read from public posts on six platforms, timestamped, and graded on the final score at the posted price, 1 unit each. A pick posted after the start does not count, and a handicapper can not pay for rank or a label. The full method is on how we grade. Today that covers 2,773 handicappers and 51,414 graded picks.
Questions to ask any service
- Where are the picks posted, and can I see them before the game?
- Who grades the record, and are they paid by you?
- Do you grade to risk or to win, and at what prices?
- Can I see every pick from last season, including losses?
Our handicapper reviews ask these questions of named services.
Common questions
Are verified handicapper sites trustworthy?
Only when the verification is independent and based on public picks posted before the start. A badge a seller can pay for is advertising.
How can I verify a handicapper myself?
Follow their public posts for a few weeks, record each pick with its time and price before the game, and grade it yourself. If they will not post publicly before games, the record can not be verified.
